Hi, welcome to the Gut Check Guide. A few years ago, I developed chronic inflammation in my stomach from taking prescription anti-inflammatory medication following surgery. Since then, despite guidance from multiple GI doctors, a nutritionist, and a functional medicine practitioner, and my best effort to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle, my stomach has not fully recovered. Over the years, while doing research into how I can create an environment internally and externally that will give my body the best chance to heal, I have become aware that our food system here in the United States is broken. Our food contains ingredients that cause whole body inflammation and lead to chronic disease. I believe it’s the number one reason why the United States spends A LOT more money per captia on healthcare than the rest of the world and yet has the highest rate of chronic disease in the world. The more I learn, the more motivated I become to make conscious decisions about what I consume. As I have made modifications to my diet, I am in pain less often, I sleep better, I have more energy, and in general my body feels better. The purpose of this blog is to share what I’ve learned so that yo too can make educated decisions about what you consume.
